Case IH 16113 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control): Outlet sensor open or shorted to power

The system has detected that the circuit for the HVAC Temperature Outlet Sensor (identified in schematics as sensor B-053 or B054) has an open circuit or is shorted to a power source. This prevents the system from reading the temperature of the air blowing out of the vents, which is required to automatically regulate cab climate.

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to view live data for the ATC module and check the 'Outlet Temperature' reading for extreme default values (e.g., -40°C or maximum high) to confirm the open/short condition.

   Locate the Temperature Outlet Sensor in the HVAC ducting/evaporator assembly and inspect the wiring harness (frame 29 / 55.100 circuit) for rubbed-through wires, pinched lines, or disconnected plugs.

   Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to check for continuity on the sensor side to rule out an internal open in the probe.

   Check the harness side for a short to 12V power and ensure continuity back to the ATC module pins.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the necessary cab interior trim panels or roof cap to access the HVAC blower and evaporator assembly where the outlet air ducting is routed.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Unplug the electrical connector from the Temperature Outlet Sensor. Twist or unclip the sensor probe from the HVAC duct housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the new temperature probe into the duct housing and secure it. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall all cab trim panels and restore battery power.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Turn the key on, clear the 16113 / 113 fault code from the ATC module using your diagnostic tool or the cab monitor. Start the machine, turn on the Auto A/C, and verify that the blower speed and temperature adjust correctly as the cab cools down or heats up.
