16130

Case IH 16130 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) / Air Conditioning Controller: Low pressure switch (+) input shorted to power (or shorted with power supply)

Issue description

The A/C low pressure switch monitors system pressure and cuts the electrical loop to the compressor clutch if pressure drops too low. Code 16130 indicates that the controller is detecting a short circuit to a 12V power source on the positive (+) input circuit of this switch.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Puma series (115 through 240)
  • Magnum series
  • Maxxum series
  • Steiger series
  • CVX models
  • Axial-Flow Combines

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the A/C low pressure switch electrical connector and wiring harness for melted insulation, chafing, or pinched wires.

  2. Perform a voltage check by disconnecting the harness from the switch, turning the key ON (engine off), and probing the positive signal wire. A 12V reading indicates a short in the harness.

  3. Test the low pressure switch for internal continuity to ensure it is not internally shorted to its housing.

  4. Hook up A/C manifold gauges to verify the system has the correct static refrigerant charge.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed 12V on the signal wire due to a harness short, trace the wire back to the ATC module. Locate the chafed or melted section, cut out the damaged wire, and repair it using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors.

  3. Switch Replacement (If Applicable)

Locate the A/C low pressure switch on the A/C line. Unplug the electrical connector. Unthread the faulty switch (Note: Most modern Case IH A/C lines feature a Schrader valve beneath the pressure switch, allowing you to unscrew the switch without discharging the A/C system's refrigerant. Verify this on your specific model before fully unthreading). Thread the new OEM switch onto the fitting (Thread size is typically M10 x 1.25) and tighten securely. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and use the tractor's diagnostic menu (or a service tool) to clear the ATC 16130 fault code.

  5. Test Operation

Start the tractor, turn on the A/C, and verify that the compressor clutch engages properly and the fault code does not return.
