Case IH 16132 – Air Conditioning Controller (HVAC ECU) / Cab Controller: Low pressure switch (-) input shorted to power
Issue description
This fault indicates an electrical issue within the cab's climate control system. The controller has detected that the signal voltage from the Air Conditioning (A/C) low-pressure switch is unexpectedly high, meaning the negative (-) input circuit is shorted to a positive power source.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Maxxum
- Puma series (140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225, CVX)
- Steiger series
- Magnum (MX/TG series)
- Maxxum series
- Farmall series
Check the cause
Ensure the air conditioning is switched off and all electrical/hydraulic applications are deselected before testing.
Locate the A/C low-pressure switch, typically mounted on the receiver drier or the A/C suction line.
Inspect the wiring harness between the A/C low-pressure switch and the Air Conditioning Controller for rubbed, chafed, or melted wire insulation (specifically check the Blue/White [U/W] wire on Puma models).
Disconnect the switch and test the harness connector with a multimeter to see if voltage is present on the negative signal wire when the system is powered on.
Test the low-pressure switch itself for internal shorts using a multimeter.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety and prevent further electrical shorts.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, splice and repair the damaged section of the wire, ensuring it is properly insulated and routed away from heat sources or sharp metal edges.
Replace the Switch
Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Unscrew the faulty switch (verify if it is mounted on a Schrader valve fitting to avoid evacuating refrigerant). Thread the new OEM low-pressure switch onto the fitting and tighten it to the manufacturer's specification.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical connector to the switch and reconnect the tractor's battery.
Clear Codes & Test
Clear the 16132 fault code from the Air Conditioning Controller using the tractor's diagnostic menu or an EST service tool. Start the tractor, turn on the A/C, and verify that the compressor engages properly and the code does not return.
