Case IH 1713-06 - VCM – VCM: Hydraulic filter restriction switch, clean switch terminal.
Issue description
This code indicates a fault in the circuit of the hydraulic filter restriction switch, typically a low voltage condition, short to ground, or a poor electrical connection. The switch monitors the condition of the hydraulic filter and closes when the pressure differential exceeds specifications.
Applies to these machines
15 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect

Check the cause
Inspect the hydraulic filter to determine if it is actually clogged, which would cause the switch to close normally.
Inspect the electrical connector at the hydraulic filter restriction switch for dirt, corrosion, or loose pins.
Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter (should be Open under normal conditions, closing only at 2.75 bar or 40 PSID).
Check the wiring harness from the switch back to the VCM for chafing, pinched wires, or a short to ground.
Repair steps
Locate the Switch
Find the hydraulic filter restriction switch, which is threaded into the primary hydraulic filter base/housing.
Clean the Connection
Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch. Thoroughly clean the switch terminals and the harness connector using a high-quality electrical contact cleaner. Apply dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion.
Replace the Filter
If the hydraulic filter is due for service or if the restriction is genuine, drain the housing and replace the hydraulic filter element.
Replace the Switch
If the switch fails the continuity test (e.g., it is stuck closed when there is no pressure), unthread the old switch from the filter base. Install the new switch and tighten it to OEM torque specifications.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness, turn the key on, and use the diagnostic menu or a scan tool to clear the 1713-06 fault code from the VCM.
Test the System
Start the machine and operate the hydraulics to ensure the code does not return.
