Case IH 17411 (F-522002-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Defective pressure reduction
Issue description
This condition indicates that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system is failing to properly reduce the pressure of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / AdBlue). This typically happens during the system's after-run/purge cycle when the DEF supply module (pump) reverses flow to empty the lines and prevent freezing, or it indicates a blockage/valve failure preventing the pressure from dropping.

Check the cause
Check Battery Voltage: Low battery voltage (SPN 168, FMI 1) is the most common stored code on Case IH tractors and can cause false DEF system faults. Verify the battery and alternator are functioning correctly.
Inspect DEF Filters: Check the DEF inline filter and the DEF line strainer for clogs or crystallization that could restrict flow and trap pressure.
Wiring and Circuit Check: Turn off the ignition switch and inspect the control circuit and wiring harness between the ECU, the DEF supply module, and the DEF dosing valve for shorts, open circuits, or corrosion.
Run a System Test: Use a diagnostic scan tool to run an 'AdBlue/DEF dosing valve control test' or 'AdBlue/DEF metering system control test' to verify if the pump and doser are physically actuating.
Repair steps
Power down ECU
Turn OFF the ignition switch and wait for the ECU to fully power down (ensure the after-run purge cycle has completely stopped).
Locate DEF Supply Module
Locate the DEF Supply Module (pump). Depending on the machine architecture, it may be tank-mounted or mounted remotely on the frame rail.
Disconnect electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the DEF supply module.
Disconnect DEF fluid lines
Carefully disconnect the DEF fluid lines. Note: Be prepared for minor fluid spillage; clean any spilled DEF immediately with warm water to prevent corrosive crystallization.
Remove defective module
Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket and remove the defective unit.
Install new module
Install the new DEF supply module and securely bolt it to the bracket.
Reconnect lines and harness
Reconnect the DEF fluid lines and the electrical harness.
Replace filters
Replace the DEF inline filter and line strainer as preventative maintenance to protect the new pump.
Turn on ignition
Turn ON the ignition switch without starting the engine.
Clear codes and test
Connect a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTC 17411 (F-522002-31), and run a system test to ensure the code does not return.
