Case IH 17515 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine idle shutdown commanded from SCR inducement
Issue description
Indicates that the engine has been commanded to shut down after a period of idling because an underlying Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emission fault has been active for too long without being repaired.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum series (e.g., 235, 260, 315, 340)
- Case IH Steiger series
- Case IH Puma and Farmall series
- Case N-Series Loaders
Check the cause
Scan for Primary Fault Codes: Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to read all active codes. Look for the primary code triggering the inducement (e.g., NOx sensor plausibility, DEF pressure low, DEF quality poor, or DEF tank empty).
Check DEF Quality and Level: Use a refractometer to test the DEF fluid in the tank. It must be exactly 32.5% urea. If it is contaminated with water or diesel, this will trigger an inducement.
Inspect the Dosing System: Check the DEF injector (doser) and lines for crystallization, blockages, or leaks.
Check NOx Sensors: Verify that the upstream and downstream NOx sensors are reading correctly and are not caked in soot.
Repair steps
Repair the Root Cause
Address the primary fault code found during diagnostics. This may involve draining and flushing contaminated DEF, replacing a failed NOx sensor, or replacing a clogged DEF filter.
Reset the SCR Inducement
Once the physical repair is made, the ECU will still be in 'Inducement Lock'. Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic laptop.
Perform SCR System Test
Navigate to the SCR system tests and execute the 'SCR Inducement Reset' or 'SCR Learned Data Reset'.
Command a Forced Regeneration
In many FPT/CNH engines, the inducement lock will not fully clear until the system verifies the repair under load. Command a stationary DPF/SCR regeneration via the service tool.
Verify Healing Condition
Allow the regen to complete. The ECU requires the healing condition to be fulfilled continuously (usually >50 ms of clean emissions data) to unlock the inducement blocks and clear code 19267. Turn the key OFF, wait 30 seconds, and turn the key ON to verify the code has moved from Active to Inactive.
Parts you might need
(4)Fan / Alternator V-Belt (Compressor Drive)
17515Also crosses to 291019C2, A-17515. 17/32" x 51.77". Fits older Case IH Industrial/Construction models (e.g., 580C, 480C) and legacy tractors (e.g., 886).
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
Must meet ISO 22241 standards (32.5% Urea).
NOx Sensor (Upstream/Downstream)
OEM CNH part numbers vary heavily by exact engine serial number.
DEF Dosing Filter
Should be replaced if DEF contamination is found.
