Case IH 17517 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): SCR Inducement: Level 1 (Torque reduction), triggered by EGR valve blocked fault
Issue description
The engine's Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is mechanically blocked or stuck. Because the EGR system is critical for emissions control, this blockage triggers the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system's inducement strategy, forcing the machine into a Level 1 torque reduction (engine derate) to limit emissions.

Check the cause
Inspect the EGR valve for mechanical blockages, such as dirt or heavy carbon buildup on the valve seat, which prevents it from opening or closing properly.
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check for any other active urea/DEF system faults that may be contributing to the inducement lock.
Repair steps
Repair the Root Cause
Clean, repair, or replace the blocked EGR valve to resolve the physical fault.
Connect the EST
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port and turn the key switch to the ON position without starting the engine.
Navigate to Configuration
In the EST software, navigate to the 'Configuration' icon.
Select Reset Menu
Select the "Engine Restart Counter Reset / Unlock Inducement" screen.
Configure
Click "CONFIGURE SELECTED ITEM".
Unlock Inducement
Click the "RESET ENGINE RESTART COUNTER / UNLOCK INDUCEMENT" button to clear the inducement restart counters and unlock the system.
Verify
Perform the SCR Fault Repair Verification Test using the EST to confirm the fault is fully resolved before returning the machine to service.
