Case IH 17519 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Inducement Lockout / Severe Derate
Issue description
An emissions-related fault has occurred multiple times, causing the engine control software to enforce a maximum inducement (engine derate or idle-lock) to prevent operation without a functioning emissions system.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Steiger T4B
- Magnum series tractors
- Steiger series tractors
- Puma series tractors
- Maxxum series tractors
- Farmall series
- Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)
Check the cause
Read active faults using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to identify primary faults in the DEF/AdBlue or Exhaust Gas systems (Code 17519 is a secondary consequence of these).
Inspect exhaust gas temperature sensors, upstream oxidation catalyst sensors, and EGR sensors for physical damage, loose mounting, or soot accumulation.
Inspect sensor harnesses for short-to-ground conditions or open circuits, and verify the ECM is receiving proper and stable battery voltage.
Verify that the DEF tank is full, the fluid is not degraded or contaminated, and the DEF quality sensor is communicating properly on the CAN bus.
Repair steps
Repair the Root Cause
Follow the appropriate diagnostic procedure to resolve the specific active emissions fault (e.g., replace the faulty exhaust gas sensor or DEF component).
Connect the EST
Plug the Electronic Service Tool into the machine's diagnostic port and turn the ignition ON.
Navigate to Configurations
In the EST software, go to the Configuration menu (often found under the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust treatment section).
Select the Reset Option
Select the screen for "Engine Restart Counter Reset / Unlock Inducement".
Execute the Reset
Click on "CONFIGURE SELECTED ITEM", and then click the button labeled "RESET ENGINE RESTART COUNTER / UNLOCK INDUCEMENT".
Verification Test
Perform the "SCR Fault Repair Verification Test" using the EST to ensure the system recognizes the repair.
Clear Codes
Once the verification test passes, the inducement lock will be lifted. Clear any remaining inactive fault codes and return the machine to service.
