Case IH 17523 – Electronic module: Excessive Hydrocarbon (HC) Accumulation in Exhaust System

Issue description

Level 2 failure indicating a warning for component protection due to excessive Hydrocarbon (HC) accumulation in the exhaust system (at least 16383 mg of liquid HC). This occurs when the engine is operated at very low loads or left idling for long periods, causing exhaust temperatures to fall below 200.0 °C (392.0 °F).

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Maxxum Series Tractors (115, 125, 135, 145, 150)
  • Case IH / Steyr Profi Series Tractors (4115 PROFI, 4125 PROFI, 4135 PROFI)
  • NEF Engines (F4DFE413 series engines)

Check the cause

  1. Verify the machine's recent operating history to confirm if it has been subjected to prolonged idling or very low-load operations.

  2. Check exhaust temperature logs to see if the system has been running below the 200.0 °C (392.0 °F) threshold required for the DOC to function.

  3. Consult the specific 'Electronic modules - Service instruction - Hydrocarbon (HC) accumulation' document referenced by the code.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)

Generally do not require replacement for this code unless the HC accumulation has caused irreversible face-plugging or thermal damage to the catalyst substrate.

  • Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst

Generally do not require replacement for this code unless the HC accumulation has caused irreversible face-plugging or thermal damage to the catalyst substrate.
