17526 (DTC F27F) - ECU

Case IH 17526 (DTC F27F) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Inducement system is locked due to 3 detections in 40 hours (repeat offender)

Issue description

This is a regulatory emissions lockout. The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected an emissions-related fault (such as poor DEF quality, a failing NOx sensor, or tampering) three separate times within a 40-hour engine operating window. As a result, the engine control system activates an inducement lock (severely derating engine power or preventing engine starting) to prevent the machine from operating with a malfunctioning emissions system.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Farmall 40, 45, and 50 Tractors (with Cab and CVT Transmission)
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow® Combines
  • machines utilizing MTA CCM & APH Stage V MR architectures

Check the cause

  1. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to pull all active codes and identify the root-cause SCR fault (e.g., 17538 or 17571)

  2. Verify the DEF tank is full and check the fluid for contamination or poor quality

  3. Inspect all connectors to the ECU and Dosing Control Unit (DCU) to ensure they are undamaged, properly seated, and locks are not broken

  4. If CAN communication codes are present, test the CAN network using a multimeter (should read 60 ohms of resistance between CAN HI and CAN LO wires)

Repair steps

  1. Repair the Root Cause

Fix the underlying emissions issue that caused the 3 detections (e.g., drain and replace contaminated DEF, replace a faulty NOx sensor, or repair damaged CAN wiring).

  2. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  3. Perform the Reset

Navigate to the dealer service tool screen and select the "Engine Restart Counter Reset" function. Note: The system cannot be unlocked without performing this specific software reset.

  4. Clear Codes

Clear all inactive fault codes from the ECM.

  5. Retest

Cycle the key and run the machine to verify the inducement lock is removed and no new SCR faults populate.
