Case IH 17545 (F-519646-31) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM): Inducement system is locked due 4 hour inducement limit.
Issue description
This is a severe emissions-related software lock. When a Tier 4B / Stage V engine detects a critical Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) fault, it enters an inducement state. If operated for more than 4 hours without correcting the root cause, the system locks, severely limiting engine torque and speed, or preventing restart. The system must be reset using the dealer service tool screen 'Engine Restart Counter Reset'.

Check the cause
Scan for Active Root-Cause Codes: Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check for other active SCR/DEF fault codes (e.g., NOx sensor plausibility, DEF dosing errors, or DEF quality faults).
Verify DEF Fluid: Check the DEF tank for adequate level, proper concentration (using a refractometer), and absence of contamination.
Check NOx Sensor Readings: In the EST, navigate to 'Engine Derate Status'. Monitor the NOx sensor output. A static (engine off) sensor should read exactly 500 ppm. When the engine is running and the exhaust is hot, the SCR system should inject DEF, and the reading should drop to a typical range of 250–270 ppm.
Perform a Urea Dosing System Test (UDST): Use the EST to command the DEF pump to run and verify that the dosing module is building pressure and spraying correctly.
Repair steps
Repair the Root Cause
Replace the failed component (e.g., NOx sensor, DEF pump, or DEF filter) or drain and refill contaminated DEF fluid based on your diagnostic findings.
Connect the Diagnostic Tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Key ON, Engine OFF
Turn the ignition key switch to the ON position without starting the engine.
Navigate to Configuration
In the EST software, click on the "Configuration" icon.
Reset the Counter
Select the "Engine Restart Counter Reset / Unlock Inducement" option. Execute the reset to clear the software lock.
Clear Codes and Test
Clear any remaining inactive fault codes. Start the engine and perform a test run to ensure the exhaust system reaches operating temperature and the inducement state does not return. (Note: If a component like a NOx sensor was replaced, you may also need to select "Reset ECU Data" for that specific component in the EST so the ECM learns the new sensor's zero-value).
