Case IH 17577 (F-518255-19) - ECU – ECM (Engine Control Module): CAN message corruption between vehicle controller and ECM controller - TSC1_VE message

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is receiving an invalid, corrupted, or timed-out Torque Speed Control 1 - Vehicle Engine (TSC1_VE) data message over the CAN bus network from the machine's primary vehicle controller.

   Check for related CAN communication fault codes (such as 17576, 17578, 17579, or 17580) which indicate broader CAN bus failures rather than a single corrupted message

   Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Vehicle Controller and the ECM for chafing, breaks, or corrosion

3. 3

   Inspect the connectors at both the ECM and the Vehicle Controller for bent pins, moisture intrusion, or poor terminal tension

4. 4

   With the battery disconnected, measure the CAN bus terminating resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (a healthy CAN network should read approximately 60 ohms)

   Verify the battery voltage and ground connections to both the ECM and the Vehicle Controller, as low voltage or poor grounds can cause CAN message corruption

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Isolate the Harness

   Locate the ECM (on the engine) and the Vehicle Controller (typically in the cab/armrest). Disconnect the harness connectors from both modules.

   Test the CAN Lines

   Perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the two modules. If resistance is high or an open circuit is found, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

   Check for Shorts

   Perform a short-to-ground and short-to-power test on the CAN lines. Repair any shorts found in the harness.

   Clean and Reconnect

   Clean all connector pins with an approved electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect the modules securely, ensuring the locking tabs click into place.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the negative battery cable.

   Clear Codes

   Connect a dealer diagnostic service tool (e.g., CNH Electronic Service Tool or Jaltest) and clear the inactive fault codes.

   Test Operation

   Start the engine and operate the machine to verify if the TSC1_VE message corruption fault returns. If the wiring is perfectly intact and the code returns immediately, a software reflash/update or replacement of the Vehicle Controller or ECM may be required.
