Case IH 17581 (F-518256-19) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) / ECU A-095: CAN message corruption between vehicle controller and ECM controller - TSC1_VR message
Issue description
The Engine Control Module is receiving an invalid, corrupted, or timed-out CAN bus signal from the machine/vehicle controller regarding the engine brake command (TSC1_VR message).
Applies to these machines
3 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Stage V MR (Medium Range) Tractors
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
Check the cause
Check for other active vehicle CAN faults, as they may be the root cause of the message corruption and must be resolved first
Inspect wiring harnesses and connectors at the ECM and vehicle controller for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires
Perform a flex test on the involved wiring harnesses while operating the machine or observing a diagnostic monitor to reveal intermittent breaks or shorts
Check the ECU A-095 supply voltage by disconnecting the vehicle harness at connector X-911 and measuring voltage on the harness side with the ignition ON
Perform a continuity and short-to-ground check on connector X-911 (from pin 19, wire 1930 WH to chassis ground and all other pins) with the ignition OFF
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If the visual inspection or continuity checks reveal a short to ground, open circuit, or damaged pins, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness or connector.
Software Verification
If the wiring is intact, the voltage is correct, and the fault has not been resolved, verify that the appropriate software version is installed on the ECU A-095. Reinstall or reflash the ECU software if necessary.
Module Replacement
If the wiring harness is completely verified, the software is up to date, and the CAN message corruption persists, the ECU A-095 (Engine Control Module) or the vehicle controller itself may have an internal failure and will need to be replaced.
