Case IH 17584 (F-518255-14) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095): CAN communication failure between vehicle controller and ECM controller - TSC1_VR message
Issue description
The ECU fails to sense the TSC1_VR (Torque/Speed Control 1 - Vehicle Retarder) message at the active rate due to a timeout, message corruption, or a physical bus failure.

Check the cause
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the fault is currently active to rule out an intermittent connection
Check for other related vehicle CAN faults using the EST to determine if there is a broader network failure
Verify that the ECU A-095 has the correct and most up-to-date software installed
Visually inspect the CAN circuit wiring harnesses and connectors between the vehicle controller and the ECU for damaged, bent, or displaced pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires
Perform a flex test on the involved wiring harnesses while observing the monitor to reveal intermittent breaks or shorts in the CAN twisted pair

Resolve Broader Network Issues
If related vehicle CAN faults exist, troubleshoot and resolve those first. Once resolved, recheck if the 17584 (TSC1_VR) fault has cleared.
Test Wiring Integrity
Use a multimeter to test the CAN twisted pair wiring between the vehicle controller and the ECU A-095 for continuity, open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery voltage. Repair any damaged wiring found.
Check Power and Ground
Verify that the ECU A-095 is receiving proper supply voltage and has a solid ground connection.
Check Termination Resistor
Verify the integrity of the CAN network's termination resistors (remembering that the ECU A-095 houses the internal termination resistor for Node A).
Replace the ECU
If the wiring is perfectly intact, supply voltage/ground is correct, no other CAN faults exist, and the software is up to date, the failure is likely internal to the ECU A-095 (e.g., a failed internal powerstage or termination resistor). Remove and replace the Engine Control Unit.
