Case IH 17587 (F-2797-01) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM Internal Failure - Injector Booster voltage too low.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) contains an internal booster circuit (a DC-DC converter) that steps up the standard machine voltage to a higher voltage required to rapidly fire the electronic fuel injectors. This fault is triggered when the diagnostic threshold of the booster voltage is not reached. Without sufficient booster voltage, the injectors cannot open quickly or fully, leading to misfires, poor performance, or a no-start condition.

   Verify battery health, alternator output, and ensure there are no severe voltage drops during cranking (especially during a cold start).

   Check the main power supply and ground pins at the ECM harness for high resistance.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the ECM and the fuel injectors for a short circuit to ground on the high-side injector wiring.

   Clear the code and perform a key cycle to rule out a false flag caused by electronic disturbances.

   Verify external components

   Confirm that the battery, alternator, and injector wiring harness pass all tests (no shorts, no high resistance).

   Reprogram the ECM

   If the error occurs repeatedly but no external electrical faults are found, attempt to re-flash/reprogram the ECM with the latest dataset using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

   Replace the ECM

   If the wiring is intact, the charging system is healthy, and reprogramming fails (or the fault persists immediately after clearing), the internal booster circuit is permanently damaged. Replace the EDC/ECM.

   Calibrate new ECM

   Install the new ECM and use the CNH EST to flash the correct firmware for the specific tractor model and perform any required injector coding or valve calibrations.
