Case IH 17653 (F-518398-04) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM 12/24 volt actuator supply 6 is shorted to battery voltage

   Perform a safe power down: turn off the ignition and wait at least 30 seconds before operating the battery cut-off switch to allow the ECU to power down safely.

   Access the Bosch MD1CE101 ECM and locate pins 5.13 and 6.42 for pinpoint testing.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness leading from pins 5.13 and 6.42 to the actuators on Supply 6. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could be bridging the supply wire to a 12V/24V battery source.

   Disconnect the actuators powered by Supply 6 one by one. Use a multimeter to check if the short to battery voltage disappears when a specific actuator is unplugged, which would indicate an internal short within that component.

   Isolate Power

   Ensure the machine's battery disconnect switch is turned off before beginning repairs.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a damaged wiring harness shorting to a power wire, cut out the damaged section and splice in new wiring using OEM-approved weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected harness section entirely.

   Replace Actuator

   If the short is isolated to an internal failure of an actuator on the Supply 6 circuit, remove and replace the faulty actuator.

   Reassemble and Clear

   Reconnect the ECU harness and all sensors/actuators. Restore battery power. Connect a diagnostic scan tool to the OBD port, clear the inactive 17653 fault code, and run the engine to verify the code does not return.
