Case IH 17668 (F-518183-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM Internal failure - Error in the plausibility of the energizing times of the zero fuel quantity calibration

The Engine Control Module (ECM/ECU) has detected an internal software or hardware error regarding the injector energizing times during the engine's automated zero fuel quantity calibration process.

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic tool to read the ECU failure memory and confirm the code is currently active.

   Verify the battery voltage is stable and inspect the main power and ground wiring harnesses leading to the Engine ECU for voltage drops or poor grounds.

   Attempt to clear the fault code memory and check if it returns after the next key cycle or engine startup.

   Check if there is a newer software calibration available for the Engine ECU from CNH Industrial.

   Inspect Wiring

   Thoroughly inspect the ECU wiring harness connectors for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion. Clean and secure the connections.

   Cycle the System

   Clear the fault codes using the diagnostic tool, turn the battery disconnect switch off for 5 minutes to allow the ECU to power down completely, and then restart the machine.

   Reflash the ECU

   If the code returns immediately upon startup, connect the EST and reflash the Engine ECU with the latest software calibration to rule out software corruption.

   Replace the ECU

   If the wiring is intact, the software is up to date, and the code persists, the internal circuitry of the ECU has failed. You must replace the Engine ECU.

   Program the New ECU

   After installing a replacement ECU, use the diagnostic tool to copy the machine's configuration parameters and calibrate the new control unit to the engine.
