Case IH 17702 (F-518260-09) - ECU – ECU A-095: ECU A-095 has sensed a CCVS (Cruise Control/Vehicle Speed) message timeout
Issue description
A CAN bus communication error meaning the main vehicle controller is failing to receive expected vehicle speed or cruise control messages from the transmission or related vehicle systems within the required timeframe.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Patriot sprayers
- Austoft harvesters
Check the cause
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the fault is present and in an active state
Look for other active CAN communication faults (e.g., CAN timeout error from the transmission). If other CAN faults exist, they must be resolved first
Check that the tractor battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box). Disconnect if present and test for normal operation
Start the engine and run it at 2000 RPM. Check the battery voltage on the instrument cluster to ensure the charging system is not overcharging (greater than 15V) or undercharging
Disconnect the vehicle (VE) harness from the ECU A-095 at connector X-911. With the ignition ON, use a multimeter to check for proper supply voltage and ground on the vehicle harness side
Inspect the harnesses and connectors for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires. Flex the involved harnesses to reveal intermittent breaks or shorts
Repair steps
Resolve Primary CAN Faults
If the EST shows transmission or other vehicle CAN faults alongside 17702, diagnose and repair those circuits first.
Repair Wiring/Connectors
If the visual inspection or multimeter continuity checks reveal an open circuit, short to ground, or short circuit in the CAN bus wiring between the transmission and ECU A-095, repair or replace the affected harness section.
Check Termination Resistors
Test the CAN bus termination resistors to ensure the network has the correct resistance (typically 60 ohms across the CAN High and CAN Low pins with the battery disconnected).
Software Re-flash
If the wiring, voltage, and grounds are all verified as good, check the ECU A-095 for the appropriate software version. Use the EST to re-flash the ECU software if necessary.
Replace the ECU
If the software re-flash does not resolve the issue and all external circuits and inputs are verified to be in working order, the ECU A-095 itself has failed and must be replaced.
