Case IH 17730 (F-3064-07) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Particulate filter is damaged or missing

The engine control system monitors the exhaust backpressure using a differential pressure sensor connected to the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). If the sensor reports a pressure drop across the filter that is implausibly low or non-existent during engine operation, the system determines that the exhaust gas is flowing without the expected restriction. This indicates that the internal ceramic substrate of the DPF is physically broken, melted, hollowed out, or the filter has been completely removed.

   Inspect the hoses running from the exhaust pipe to the DPF differential pressure sensor for disconnections, cracks, melting, or blockages (a broken hose will vent pressure, tricking the ECU).

   Inspect the differential pressure sensor connector and wiring harness for chafing, corrosion, or damage.

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool and monitor the DPF differential pressure live data while the engine is running under load (if stuck at zero, test the sensor itself).

   Inspect the exterior of the DPF canister for signs of tampering, aftermarket welding, or severe impact damage.

   Cool Down

   Ensure the engine is turned off and the exhaust system has completely cooled down to prevent severe burns.

   Resolve Hose/Sensor Issues

   If the diagnostic checks revealed cracked or disconnected differential pressure hoses, replace the hoses, clear the code, and test run the machine.

   Remove the DPF

   If the sensor and lines are intact and functioning properly, loosen the exhaust clamps and disconnect the sensor lines securing the DPF canister to the exhaust system.

   Inspect the Substrate

   Remove the DPF and visually inspect the internal ceramic matrix. Look for a hollowed-out core, deep cracks, or melted sections.

   Replace the DPF

   If the filter substrate is damaged or missing, install a new or remanufactured DPF assembly. Ensure you use new exhaust gaskets to prevent exhaust leaks.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the exhaust clamps, differential pressure sensor, and hoses.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Use the diagnostic tool to clear fault code 17730 (F-3064-07). Start the engine and perform a stationary forced regeneration or operate the machine under load to verify that the ECU now registers the correct differential pressure and the code does not return.
