Case IH 17743 (F-518201-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ECM): ECU internal failure - Irregular power down detected

This condition is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is switched off before the "End of Shutdown reached" condition is fulfilled. The timed ECU power supply is cut off too quickly after the ignition key is turned off, interrupting the ECU's required "afterrun" duration.

   Verify if the operator is cutting the battery supply (using a master battery disconnect switch) immediately after shutting the machine down, preventing the normal key-off ECU afterrun cycle

2. 2

   Check if the vehicle's supply management is normal or if there are unexpected power shut-offs during running or during the afterrun phase

   Inspect the main power relay and its wiring for faults, shorts, or open circuits that could cause it to open too early

   Erase the Level 2/3 error from the fault code memory and operate the vehicle for a short distance to see if the code returns

   Clear the Code

   Erase the fault code from the ECU memory using a diagnostic tool.

   Test Drive

   Operate the vehicle for a short distance (e.g., a few kilometers) and perform a normal key-off shutdown.

   Address Power Supply Issues

   If the code returns, diagnose the main relay and battery disconnect circuits. Replace the main relay if it is dropping out before the ECU commands it to.

   ECU Replacement

   If the power supply management is confirmed to be normal, the operator is not using the battery disconnect switch improperly, and the error reappears in a short time, the Engine ECU has suffered an internal ECM failure and must be replaced.
