17769 (F-7107-02) - ECU

Case IH 17769 (F-7107-02) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): DEF/AdBlue Supply Module Pump Motor communication failure

Issue description

The operational data of the DEF feeding module reported in the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) output signal is out of range, or the control module has lost CAN bus communication with the DEF pump motor.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Austoft 9900
  • Case IH Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 7250, 9240)

Check the cause

  1. Check for low voltage events by performing a battery load test (replace if Cold Cranking Amps have dropped below 75% of rated value)

  2. Test alternator output to ensure it produces at least 13.8 volts at 1,500 RPM

  3. Inspect battery terminals and ground straps for corrosion and tightness

  4. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the fault is active or intermittent, and check for related CAN bus dropouts or low voltage cluster codes

  5. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between the ECU and the DEF Supply Module for open circuits, shorts, or corrosion

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Electrical Supply Issues

If the load test fails, replace the battery or alternator, and clean all ground connections. Clear the codes and retest to see if the communication failure returns.

  2. Repair Wiring

If physical damage or corrosion is found in the CAN bus wiring to the DEF header/pump, repair the wiring using OEM repair connectors.

  3. Replace the DEF Supply Module

If voltage and wiring are verified as good but the ECU still cannot communicate with the pump motor, the internal circuitry of the DEF Supply Module has failed. Remove the DEF lines (noting the low-pressure supply and return line routing) and replace the DEF Supply Module.

  4. Service the DEF System

While the system is open, check for DEF crystallization. It is highly recommended to replace the DEF filter cartridge when replacing the pump.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Use the EST to clear the 17769 (F-7107-02) fault code. Run the engine and verify that the DEF system builds stable pressure and that the ECU is receiving the correct PWM signal from the pump.
