Case IH 17772 (F-7107-18) - ECU – ECU: DEF/AdBlue supply module pump motor - Internal pump duty cycle below the minimum limit

Issue description

The system detects that the internal pump duty cycle is out of its expected operational range (below the minimum limit). The Engine Control Module monitors the duty cycle required to maintain the target DEF system pressure of 9000 mBar (130 psi). If the duty cycle drops below the minimum allowable threshold, it means the pump is not operating correctly to supply the dosing valve, which will lead to an emissions derate.

Check the cause

  1. Run a UDLC (Urea Dosing Line Clearing) or flushing test using a diagnostic tool to verify pressure builds to 9000 mBar (130 psi) within 20 seconds and duty cycle drops to 13-20%.

  2. Inspect the DEF supply module main filter for heavy contamination or check if it is past its maintenance interval.

  3. Inspect the DEF pressure lines and dosing valve (injector) in the exhaust for crystallization or blockages.

  4. Check DEF/AdBlue fluid quality to ensure it is not contaminated with diesel or water, which can destroy the membrane pump.

  5. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the DEF supply module for corrosion, shorts to ground, or voltage drops.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize and Drain

    Turn off the machine and wait at least 5-10 minutes for the DEF system to complete its automatic purge cycle. Disconnect the battery.

  2. Replace the Filter

    If the pump passes the pressure test but struggles intermittently, replace the DEF supply module main filter. Clean the filter cover thoroughly to avoid introducing dirt.

  3. Clear Lines

    If blockages are found, flush the DEF supply lines with distilled/demineralized water.

  4. Replace the Supply Module

    If defective, disconnect the DEF hoses (inlet, return, and delivery pipes) and the electrical connector from the module. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket. Install the new supply module and reconnect the lines and harness.

  5. Reprogramming and Resets

    A new DEF supply module must be programmed to the vehicle's ECU. You must also perform a counter reset in the after-treatment management system using the Case IH diagnostic tool to clear the derate.
