Case IH 17791 (F-520349-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): ECU internal failure - Safety Management Unit Alarm Group 1 Failure 1 issued
Issue description
The internal Safety Management Unit within the engine's control module has detected a Level 2 or Level 3 internal fault or calibration error. This code can sometimes be triggered as a functional dependency alongside Level 1 errors.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Austoft 9900 Sugarcane Harvesters
- Farmall Tractors (40, 45, 50 models with Cab and CVT)
- Puma
- Magnum
Check the cause
Recognize that the procedure is independent of Level 1 errors that may have been entered in parallel due to functional dependencies.
Connect the diagnostic tool and perform an erasure of the fault code memory.
Cycle the machine/engine to see if the error reappears.
Repair steps
Clear the Memory
Erase the fault code memory using the dealer diagnostic tool.
Evaluate
Condition A: If the Level 2/3 error does not reappear, do not replace the ECU. The erasure of the fault code memory is sufficient to resolve the phantom calibration error. Condition B: If the Level 2/3 error does reappear, it confirms a hard internal failure within the module.
Replace
If Condition B is met, the ECU must be physically replaced.
Reprogram
Replacement valve assemblies and ECUs are supplied blank or with no numbers assigned. The new ECU must be flashed and calibrated to the specific machine, and any electronic remotes/valves must be reprogrammed into the new sequence.
