Case IH 17824 (F-520365-11) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Safety Management Unit Alarm Group 3 Failure 6 issued.

This fault code indicates a critical internal hardware or software failure within the Engine Control Unit (ECU). Specifically, the ECU's internal Safety Management Unit (a monitoring processor designed to oversee safe operation) has triggered an Alarm Group 3, Failure 6.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to determine if the code is Active or Stored.

   Clear the fault code, turn the battery disconnect switch off, wait a few minutes, and power the machine back on to rule out a temporary voltage spike.

   Inspect the main power and ground harness connections to the Engine ECU for poor grounding or voltage irregularities.

   If the wiring is sound and the 17824 code immediately returns as Active, confirm the ECU has suffered a permanent internal failure.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the master battery disconnect switch and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing.

   Locate the ECU

   Locate the Engine Control Unit mounted on or near the FPT Cursor 11 engine block.

   Remove the Faulty ECU

   Carefully release the locking levers on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU. Unbolt the ECU from its mounting bracket and remove it from the machine.

   Install the New ECU

   Mount the replacement ECU to the bracket and torque the bolts to OEM spec. Carefully reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking levers are fully seated.

   Reconnect Power

   Reconnect the battery and turn on the master disconnect switch.

   Programming (Required)

   Use the CNH EST diagnostic software to flash the ECU with the correct firmware and calibration files for the specific Austoft 9900 / FPT Cursor 11 configuration.
