Case IH 17827 (F-520367-31) - ECU – ECU: ECU internal failure - Safety Management Unit Alarm Group 3 Failure 9 issued

Issue description

The control module has detected a critical internal hardware or software fault within its own Safety/Security Management Unit.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH MTA CCM & APH Stage V MR vehicles
  • Farmall
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Case IH Austoft 9900 Sugarcane Harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Access On-Board Diagnostics using the HH menu and a diagnostic lead/software

  2. Verify that fault code 17827 (F-520367-31) is active and not a stored historical code

  3. Verify that the module is receiving clean power and proper ground, as voltage spikes or severe grounding issues can trigger false internal alarms

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH diagnostic tool to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Check for software updates

Check for any available software updates or calibration procedures for the ECU/CCM.

  3. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes and cycle the key to see if the Safety Management Unit alarm returns.

  4. Replace and reprogram ECU

If the code immediately returns as an active fault, the internal circuitry of the ECU has failed and the module must be replaced and reprogrammed to the tractor/harvester.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electronic Control Unit (ECU) / Cab Control Module (CCM)

Must be ordered specific to the machine's serial number and requires dealer calibration/programming using the HH menu diagnostic lead upon installation.
