Case IH 17852 (F-652-05) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Open load error of injector in cylinder 2
Issue description
This code indicates a hardware error where the circuit for the cylinder 2 fuel injector is open (line disconnected). The Engine Control Unit (ECU) uses pattern detection to monitor the power stages of the injectors; when it detects an open circuit or lack of electrical load on the cylinder 2 injector circuit, it triggers this fault.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- 240 Series (7240, 8240)
- Magnum Series (180, 210, 255, 285)
- Farmall Series
- MXU Series (MXU 110, 135)
- Austoft 9900
Check the cause
Verify if any other error codes are displayed; if present, they must be addressed first
Check that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (such as a jump-starter or external charger), as voltage irregularities can trigger false ECU hardware patterns
Inspect the wiring harness between the ECU and the cylinder 2 injector for chafed wires, loose connector pins, or corrosion
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the ECU and fuel system wiring.
Inspect Cylinder 2
Locate the fuel injector for cylinder 2 on the engine block.
Test the Circuit
Disconnect the electrical harness from the cylinder 2 injector. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the injector solenoid. If the injector reads as an open circuit (infinite resistance), the injector has failed internally.
Harness Continuity
If the injector tests within specification, test the continuity of the wiring harness from the injector connector back to the ECU pins. Repair any broken wires or replace the harness if necessary.
Replace Injector
If the injector solenoid is open/failed, remove the high-pressure fuel lines and the hold-down clamp, and extract the faulty injector. Install the new OEM injector with new O-rings and sealing washers.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical harness. Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 17852 fault code. Start the engine and verify that the code does not return.
