Case IH 17862 (F-652-04) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Short circuit of low side of injector in cylinder 2

The engine's control system has detected an electrical short circuit on the low (ground/return) side of the fuel injector circuit specifically for cylinder number 2. This prevents the injector from firing correctly, leading to misfires and loss of power.

   Read ECU memory with a diagnostic tool to confirm the code

   Perform direct actuation tests on the cylinder 2 injector using a diagnostic tool to verify the electrical fault

   Inspect the injector wiring harness under the valve cover for visible chafing, bare wires, or pinched sections that could be shorting the low side of the circuit to ground or to another wire

   Test the resistance of the cylinder 2 injector solenoid to determine if the short is internal to the injector or isolated to the wiring harness

   Remove

   Gain access to the top of the engine and remove the valve cover to access the injector wiring harness and the fuel injectors.

   Replace

   If the diagnostic tests isolate the short to the wiring, replace the internal injector wiring harness.

   Remove

   If the injector itself is internally shorted, remove the faulty cylinder 2 injector.

   Replace

   Before installing the new injector, you must replace the metal seal with a new one.

   Inspect

   When handling the new metal seal and injector, ensure the new seal is completely clean, do not allow sharp objects to contact the surface of the seal, and avoid touching the injection hole plate on the injector nozzle.

   Install

   Install the new injector and torque the hold-down screws according to the OEM specifications.

   Reassemble

   Reassemble the valve cover, reconnect the batteries, and clear the fault codes using the diagnostic tool.
