Case IH 17891 (F-520494-15) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fault Code memory space erase command was sent incorrectly multiple times and thus erase disabled
Issue description
A diagnostic scanner or connected module attempted to clear the fault code memory using an invalid, unsupported, or improperly formatted command too many times in succession, causing the control module to temporarily lock out the ability to erase fault codes.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Austoft 9900 Sugarcane Harvesters
- Case IH Farmall Series Tractors
Check the cause
Identify the source of the erase command to determine if an aftermarket, outdated, or incompatible diagnostic scanner was recently plugged into the machine.
Read the existing fault codes to identify the underlying issue the previous user was attempting to clear.
Repair steps
Cease invalid commands
Disconnect any aftermarket diagnostic tools that may be spamming the ECU with incorrect delete requests.
Send UDS reset command
Connect the official Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and send the appropriate, manufacturer-approved UDS service reset command to unlock the memory space.
Perform drive cycle reset
If the EST tool is unavailable, operate the machine normally for up to 250 cycles without sending any further failure delete requests. The ECU will automatically remove the lockout once the cycles are completed.
