Case IH 17895 (F-974-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Remote accelerator pedal position error
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is detecting a plausibility error, calibration error, or an internal processing failure regarding the signal coming from the remote accelerator pedal position sensor.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Austoft 9900
- 9000 series
Check the cause
Check the battery voltage and alternator output, as voltage drops during a cold start can trigger this error
Inspect the wiring harness between the remote accelerator pedal position sensor and the Engine ECU for high resistance, open circuits, or short circuits
Check if the ECU is being subjected to abnormally high temperatures, which can cause internal processing faults
Inspect the physical mounting of the accelerator pedal and its sensor to ensure it is not obstructed, loose, or damaged
Repair steps
Voltage Verification
Load-test the batteries and verify the alternator is charging at the correct voltage. Resolve any power supply issues first.
Harness Testing
Disconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor and the corresponding connector at the Engine ECU. Use a digital multimeter to perform a continuity and resistance check on the signal, reference voltage, and ground wires.
Clean Connections
Clean the connector pins at both the pedal sensor and the ECU with electrical contact cleaner to eliminate high resistance caused by dirt or corrosion.
Sensor Replacement
If the wiring is completely intact and within specification, the remote accelerator pedal position sensor (or the integrated pedal assembly) is likely faulty and should be replaced.
ECU Evaluation
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. If code 17895 (F-974-31) immediately returns after replacing the sensor and verifying the wiring, the Engine ECU has suffered a genuine internal failure and must be replaced or reprogrammed by a Case IH dealer.
Parts you might need
(2)Remote Accelerator Pedal Assembly / Position Sensor
Exact part numbers depend heavily on the specific build year and emissions tier. Always verify with the machine's serial number.
Engine Control Unit (ECU) - FPT Cursor 11
Only required if the internal failure is confirmed after harness and sensor testing.
