Case IH 17902 (F-3510-06) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ECM): ECU 5 volt sensor supply 2 high side output driver over temperature failure
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) provides a regulated 5-volt power supply to a specific group of engine sensors (designated as Sensor Supply 2). The "high side output driver" is the internal component of the ECU that supplies this voltage. An "over temperature failure" indicates that this internal driver is overheating, which is almost always caused by excessive current draw. This means there is likely a short circuit to ground in the 5V sensor supply 2 wiring harness, or one of the sensors on this circuit has failed internally and is pulling too much current.

Check the cause
Read Active Codes: Connect a service tool to the diagnostic connector (Pin A - GND, Pin B - +12V, CAN 1 HI/LO) to verify if 17902 is active alongside any other 5V supply codes (such as 17904 for a direct short to ground).
Harness Inspection: Visually and electrically inspect the engine wiring harness specifically for the '5 Volt Sensor Supply 2' circuit. Look for chafed, rubbed, or pinched wires that could be shorting to the machine's chassis (ground) or to a higher voltage source.
Sensor Isolation Test: Disconnect the sensors powered by the 5V Supply 2 circuit one at a time. If the fault code changes from an over-temperature/short condition to an open circuit/under-voltage code, or if the code clears entirely, the sensor you just unplugged is internally shorted and is the root cause.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before servicing the ECU or wiring.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the wiring harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.
Replace Shorted Sensor
If unplugging a specific sensor cleared the over-temperature condition, replace that faulty sensor.
ECU Replacement (If Necessary)
If the wiring is completely intact and all sensors test good, but the 17902 code persists and the 5V output is dead, the ECU's internal high-side driver has been permanently damaged by the heat/short. You must replace the Engine ECU.
Reprogramming
If the ECU is replaced, you must use the appropriate Case IH service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters and reload the engine dataset.
