Case IH 17915 (F-5466-00) - ECU – ECU: Particulate filter differential pressure value is above the extreme maximum value (filter plugged - level 3)

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) has reached a critical level of soot or ash accumulation (Level 3 overload). The differential pressure sensor, which measures the exhaust pressure drop across the DPF to calculate soot load, is reporting a pressure value that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold, confirming a severe exhaust restriction.

   Check the DPF differential pressure sensor for electrical faults (short circuit to ground, short to positive, or an open circuit) which can cause sensor data to drift high.

   Inspect the physical tubes and hoses connecting the differential pressure sensor to the exhaust stream to ensure they are not blocked by soot, melted, or disconnected.

   Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the actual calculated soot load percentage in the ECU.

   Check for other active engine codes to perform a root cause analysis (e.g., blocked EGR valve, intake manifold leaks, or fuel injector issues) that could cause excessive soot production.

   Immediate Action

   A Level 3 DPF warning requires immediate attention. At this level, automatic (passive) filter cleaning is disabled by the ECU to prevent thermal damage or fire, and the engine will typically enter a derate mode (reducing torque and speed).

   Attempt Forced Regeneration

   Connect the diagnostic service tool (EST) and attempt to command a parked (service) regeneration.

   Physical Cleaning or Replacement

   If the diagnostic tool inhibits the emergency regeneration because the soot mass is too high (Level 3 overload conditions are often non-plausible for emergency regeneration), the DPF cannot be regenerated on the machine. The DPF must be physically removed from the exhaust system.

   Overhaul

   Send the removed DPF cartridge out for professional cleaning (to remove compacted soot and ash) or replace it with a new DPF unit.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a faulty differential pressure sensor, replace the sensor.

   Reset

   Reinstall the clean/new DPF, reconnect the sensors, and use the diagnostic tool to reset the DPF soot load values in the ECU and clear the 17915 (F-5466-00) fault code.
