Case IH 17917 (F-3727-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Manual catalyst management events requested via vehicle display have been interrupted too many times.
Issue description
This code triggers when the operator attempts to initiate a manual catalyst management cycle (a manual stationary DPF/SCR regeneration) via the tractor's AFS Pro display monitor, but the process is repeatedly interrupted or aborted before it can successfully finish. This leaves the exhaust aftertreatment system unable to burn off accumulated soot, which can eventually lead to a blocked Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or derated engine power.

Check the cause
Identify the source of interruption (e.g., turning off the ignition, engaging the PTO, moving the throttle, releasing the parking brake, or pressing the regeneration inhibit switch during the cycle).
Check for accompanying fault codes (faulty DPF differential pressure sensors, exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors, or DEF quality sensors will automatically abort a regeneration cycle).
Inspect DEF/AdBlue to ensure the tank is full and the fluid is not degraded, crystallized, or diluted with water.
Check the exhaust path to ensure it is clear and the DPF is not completely blocked with soot or ash.

Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Resolve primary faults
Read the fault code stack. If there are sensor-related codes (e.g., differential pressure or EGT), diagnose and replace those components first. Code 17917 is often a secondary symptom of a sensor forcing the abort.
Prepare for forced regeneration
Park the tractor outside in a safe, well-ventilated area away from combustible materials. Apply the parking brake, set the engine to idle, and ensure no pedals, levers, or PTO are engaged.
Initiate EST regeneration
Because the display-requested regenerations have been locked out or interrupted too many times, use the EST dealer software to command a forced stationary regeneration (Manual Catalyst Management).
Allow cycle to complete
Let the tractor run through the entire cycle uninterrupted. The engine will automatically elevate RPMs and exhaust temperatures to burn off the soot.
Perform post-regen maintenance
Once the cycle completes successfully, clear the fault codes. Note: Because manual catalyst management generates extreme heat, OEM guidelines often recommend changing the engine oil immediately after a forced manual cycle is performed.
Clean or replace DPF
If the EST forced regeneration fails because the soot load is too high, the DPF must be removed and sent out for professional ash cleaning or replaced.
