Case IH 18001 – Armrest Control Unit (ARU / Armrest): Hand throttle #1 -voltage too low

The electronic signal voltage returning from the primary hand throttle potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by a failed internal resistance track in the potentiometer, an open circuit in the wiring harness, a short to ground, or a loss of the 5-volt reference supply to the sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the 3-pin electrical connector at the hand throttle for damaged wires, backed-out pins, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to verify that the potentiometer is receiving the proper 5V reference supply and has a solid ground connection at the connector.

   Test the signal wire for a short to ground or an open circuit between the armrest controller and the potentiometer.

   Check the potentiometer's resistance/voltage sweep while slowly moving the hand lever. Look for voltage drop-offs, dead spots, or a signal that stays stuck low.

   Attempt to recalibrate the throttle control via the tractor's monitor to rule out a simple software calibration loss.

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the retaining screws and disassemble the armrest console covers to access the internal hand throttle lever linkage.

   Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector from the faulty hand throttle potentiometer.

   Remove the mounting hardware securing the potentiometer to the throttle lever assembly.

   Install the new potentiometer.

   Ensure the internal sweep mechanism aligns correctly with the physical linkage/pin of the throttle lever so it can track the full range of motion.

   Secure the mounting hardware and reconnect the electrical connector.

   Reassemble the armrest console covers.

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to the ON position.

   Access the tractor's diagnostic/calibration menu on the instrument display and perform the hand throttle calibration procedure.

   This teaches the Armrest controller the new minimum (idle) and maximum (full throttle) voltage values for the replacement sensor.
