18005

Case IH 18005 – Armrest controller: Engine droop control - voltage too low

Issue description

The signal voltage coming from the engine droop control potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Magnum Series
  • Puma Series
  • MX Series
  • TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Access the Diagnostic Menu ('H Menu') using the diagnostic tool or tractor's key sequence

  2. Run the H5 - Switch operation test in the Armrest controller diagnostics to check for physical input from the droop control

  3. Run the H9 - Voltmeter diagnostic to view the live voltage reading from the engine droop control potentiometer (0V indicates a hard fault)

  4. Inspect the wiring harness inside the armrest console for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected/corroded pins at the potentiometer connector

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Component

Carefully remove the outer covers of the armrest console to expose the internal control modules and switches.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

Locate the engine droop control potentiometer. Disconnect its wiring harness and inspect the connector for pushed-out pins or corrosion.

  4. Replace the Potentiometer

If the wiring is intact and the H9 diagnostic test confirmed low/no voltage, remove the mounting hardware securing the faulty potentiometer and extract it.

  5. Install the New Part

Install the replacement potentiometer (1000 Ohm) and secure it in the console.

  6. Reassemble

Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console covers.

  7. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the stored fault codes. Operate the engine droop control to ensure the code does not return and the tractor responds correctly.
