Case IH 18006 – Armrest: Engine droop control - voltage too high
Issue description
The control module is receiving a signal voltage from the engine droop control potentiometer that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This usually points to an open ground circuit on the sensor, a signal wire shorted to a higher voltage source (like 12V), or an internal failure (open circuit) within the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the armrest trim, wiring harness, and connector at the engine droop control potentiometer for pinched wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Perform a ground circuit test using a multimeter at the potentiometer connector (an open ground is the most common cause of a voltage too high code).
Test the signal wire for a short to power, such as being shorted to a 12V supply wire within the armrest harness.
Perform a potentiometer resistance test by disconnecting it and measuring resistance across its terminals while turning the knob (should be 1000 Ohms; if OL or erratic, the potentiometer is internally faulty).
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent accidental short circuits while working inside the armrest.
Access the Component
Carefully remove the plastic trim panels and retaining screws on the multi-function armrest console to expose the underside of the control switches and potentiometers.
Disconnect
Locate the engine droop control potentiometer and unplug its electrical connector.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If your diagnostic checks revealed a broken ground or shorted wire in the harness, repair the wiring using appropriate solder/heat-shrink or replacement pins.
Replace the Potentiometer (If Applicable)
Pull off the external control knob. Remove the retaining nut or screws holding the potentiometer to the armrest housing. Install the new potentiometer (Part # 84213269) and secure it. Reinstall the control knob.
Reassembly
Plug the electrical connector back into the new potentiometer and carefully reassemble the armrest console trim, ensuring no wires are pinched in the process.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use the tractor's diagnostic menu (or a service tool) to clear the inactive 18006 fault code. Test the engine droop control knob to ensure the voltage sweeps correctly and the code does not return.
