Case IH 18012 – Armrest Controller: CVT mode switch error

The control system is receiving an invalid, erratic, or out-of-range electrical signal from the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) mode switch, which is used by the operator to select the transmission's operating mode.

   Check the Electronic Service Tool (EST) live data for the CVT mode switch (Config B/b 1.5 or 1.6) to verify state changes when toggled.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) and the Armrest Controller board for pinched wires, loose pins, or corrosion.

   Check for accompanying voltage-related codes (e.g., 5V reference drops or codes 18008/18009) that might indicate a broader harness short.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws and plastic trim covers on the MultiControl armrest to expose the base of the Multi-Function Handle and the internal armrest circuit board.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector linking the MFH to the armrest controller harness.

   Remove the Handle

   Unbolt the mounting hardware securing the MFH/Joystick assembly to the armrest slide mechanism.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the replacement Multi-Function Handle, ensuring the wiring is routed cleanly so it will not be pinched when the armrest is adjusted.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect the wiring harness, reinstall the armrest covers, and reconnect the battery.

   Software Calibration

   Connect the Case IH EST to clear the 18012 fault code. You may need to perform an armrest/MFH calibration procedure to ensure the new joystick and switches are properly recognized by the Armrest Controller.
