Case IH 18014 – Armrest control module (ARU): Rear Hitch Position Control Potentiometer - Voltage Too Low

Fault code 18014 indicates that the signal voltage from the rear hitch position control potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold (specifically, below 0.2 volts). The control module monitors this potentiometer to determine the operator's desired rear hitch height. A voltage this low typically points to a failed potentiometer with an internal open, a short to ground in the signal wire, or a complete loss of the 5-volt reference supply to the sensor.

   Turn off the tractor and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the rear hitch position control potentiometer (located inside the right-hand armrest) for loose pins, corrosion, or wire chafing.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving a 5V reference supply and has a solid ground from the Armrest Unit (ARU).

   Check the signal wire for a short to ground or an open circuit between the potentiometer connector and the ARU.

   Test the potentiometer itself by measuring its resistance sweep. If the multimeter shows an open circuit, erratic readings, or dead spots as you move the dial/lever, the potentiometer has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Power down the tractor

   Power down the tractor, turn off the battery disconnect switch, and ensure the machine is safe to work on.

   Remove armrest covers

   Remove the retaining screws and carefully take off the covers/panels on the right-hand armrest console to access the internal hitch and remote control linkages.

   Locate potentiometer

   Locate the rear hitch position control potentiometer, which is attached to the hitch control lever assembly.

   Unplug connector

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty potentiometer.

   Remove sensor

   Remove the mounting hardware (screws or retaining clips) holding the potentiometer in place and remove the sensor.

   Install replacement

   Install the replacement potentiometer in the exact same orientation and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the new sensor.

   Reassemble covers

   Reassemble the armrest console covers.

   Power up tractor

   Turn the battery disconnect back on and power up the tractor.

    Perform calibration

    Perform a rear hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor (e.g., AFS Pro 700) or the Electronic Service Tool (EST). This step is mandatory so the ARU can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage limits.
