Case IH 18015 – Armrest Controller: Rear hitch position control potentiometer - voltage too high

This code indicates that the signal voltage from the rear hitch position control potentiometer (the dial/slider used by the operator to set the 3-point hitch height) is exceeding the maximum expected threshold (above 4.8 V). This condition is typically caused by a short to power (such as a short to the 5V reference or 12V source), an open ground circuit on the sensor wiring, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness in the right-hand armrest console for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins.

   Test the ground circuit for continuity to ground on the sensor's ground pin (an open ground is the most common cause of a voltage too high code).

   Back-probe the signal wire with the key ON to check for a steady 5.0V or 12V, which indicates a short to power or an internally shorted potentiometer.

   Perform a potentiometer sweep test by disconnecting the potentiometer and measuring resistance (Ohms) across its pins while turning the dial to check for smooth changes without sudden drops or infinite readings.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Armrest Internals

   Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand armrest control console to lift the upper instrument panel/cover.
