Case IH 18019 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Rear hitch height limit potentiometer - voltage too high.

The control module is receiving a signal voltage from the rear hitch height limit dial (potentiometer) that exceeds the normal operating threshold (typically above 4.8 V). This condition is usually caused by a short to power (5V or 12V) on the sensor's signal wire, an open circuit on the sensor's ground wire, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the hitch control potentiometers under the armrest trim for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins.

   Perform a ground circuit test: Disconnect the height limit potentiometer and verify the ground pin at the harness connector has good continuity to chassis ground (an open ground is the most common cause).

   Perform a reference voltage test: Turn the key ON (engine off) and measure the reference voltage pin at the connector to ensure a steady 5V.

   Perform a signal wire test: Check the signal wire for continuity between the potentiometer connector and the Armrest Controller harness, ensuring it is not shorted to a 12V or 5V power source.

   Perform a component test: Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the potentiometer's pins while slowly turning the dial. Resistance should change smoothly without jumping to OL (open loop) or remaining static.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent short circuits while working near the Armrest Controller.

   Access the Potentiometer

   Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand Multicontroller armrest console to lift the upper trim/cover.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Locate the rear hitch height limit dial on the underside of the control panel. Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the potentiometer.

   Dismount the Potentiometer

   Remove the retaining nut or mounting screws securing the potentiometer to the dial shaft. Pull the potentiometer free.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new potentiometer onto the dial shaft, ensuring the D-slot or alignment keyway matches the dial's position perfectly. Secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reinstall the armrest console covers.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key ON. You must perform a Rear Hitch Calibration using the tractor's AFS Pro display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Clear the 18019 inactive fault code afterward.
