Case IH 18023 – Armrest Controller: Rear hitch sensitivity control potentiometer - voltage too high

The signal voltage coming from the rear hitch sensitivity control potentiometer is exceeding the maximum expected threshold (above 4.8 V). This typically points to an open ground circuit, a signal wire shorted to a power source, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the rear hitch sensitivity control potentiometer for damaged pins, corrosion, or loose connections.

   Test the ground pin for continuity to the armrest controller ground (an open ground is the most common cause).

   With the key ON and sensor disconnected, measure the voltage on the signal wire to check for a short to power (5V or 12V).

   Test the potentiometer's resistance sweep with a multimeter to check for an open or erratic internal circuit.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Potentiometer

   Disassemble the right-hand armrest console casing to access the underside of the hitch control knobs.

   Disconnect and Isolate

   Unplug the connector specifically routed to the rear hitch sensitivity control potentiometer.

   Repair Wiring

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a broken ground wire or a shorted signal wire, repair the harness break or replace the affected armrest sub-harness.

   Replace the Potentiometer

   If the wiring tested good, remove the retaining nut/clip holding the faulty potentiometer to the console housing and install the new sensor.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect the harness, reassemble the armrest, and reconnect the battery. Clear the 18023 fault code using the tractor's diagnostic display. You may need to perform an armrest/hitch calibration procedure via the display monitor so the ACM can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage values.
