Case IH 18024 – Armrest Controller (ARM / ARU): EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) flow encoder position error
Issue description
The EHR flow encoder is the rotary dial/switch located on the armrest that allows the operator to adjust the hydraulic flow rate to the remote valves. This code triggers when the controller detects that the electrical signal (voltage/position) from this encoder is erratic, missing, or outside of the expected calibrated range.

Check the cause
Interactive Display Test: Access the tractor's built-in diagnostic 'H-menu' (specifically the Armrest controller inputs, often found under H12 or channel 149 depending on the model year) or use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Sweep Test: Observe the EHR flow encoder live data while slowly rotating the control dial. The value should transition smoothly (e.g., reading from 0.0 to 6.1). If the value jumps erratically, drops to zero, or stays static, the encoder has failed.
Wiring & Connector Inspection: Inspect the H4 connectors on the armrest controller and the connections at the Integrated Control Panel (ICP). Look for backed-out pins, corrosion, or wire chafing that could cause an open circuit or short.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.
Access the Armrest Console
Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand Multicontroller armrest console to lift the upper cover and access the Integrated Control Panel (ICP).
Inspect the Harness
Locate the specific EHR flow encoder switch wiring. Disconnect the harness and check for continuity between the encoder connector and the armrest controller.
Replace the Component
If the wiring is intact but the encoder failed the sweep test, remove the faulty EHR flow encoder switch. (Note: On some newer AFS Connect or ICP configurations, the encoder is integrated into a larger switch module or the ICP itself, requiring replacement of the sub-panel).
Reassembly
Install the new encoder/panel, securely reconnect the wiring harness, and reassemble the armrest housing.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, navigate to the Armrest controller's HB menu (Display stored fault codes), and clear the inactive 18024 code. Test the remote valve flow adjustment to verify the repair.
