Case IH 18029 – Armrest Control Module (ACM): EHR 6 lever position - voltage too low (not applicable to CCM/APH _it may indicate incorrect configuration of the ACM)

Issue description

The system is detecting that the voltage signal from the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) lever #6 position sensor (potentiometer) has dropped below the acceptable threshold (typically < 0.2 V). This usually indicates an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring, a failed potentiometer inside the lever assembly, or an incorrect configuration where the computer is looking for a 6th remote lever that is not physically installed on the machine.

Check the cause

  1. Verify ACM Configuration: Because the code specifically notes 'it may indicate incorrect configuration of the ACM,' first verify how many remote valves the tractor actually has. If the tractor only has 4 or 5 remotes, the ACM software may have been incorrectly configured to monitor a 6th lever. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check and correct the ACM configuration.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: If the tractor does have 6 remotes, lift the armrest console and inspect the wiring harness connecting the EHR 6 lever to the ACM (specifically looking at the H4, H13, and H15 connectors). Look for pinched wires, disconnected plugs, or corrosion causing an open circuit or short to ground.

  3. Test Voltage: Back-probe the EHR 6 lever connector to verify if the voltage is actually below 0.2V.

  4. Attempt Calibration: Try to recalibrate the EHR levers via the A-post display or the EST. If the lever fails calibration or the system reads it as constantly in the 'lower' or 'neutral' position despite physical movement, the internal potentiometer has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Reconfigure the ACM (If Applicable)

    If the tractor does not have a 6th remote, connect the EST laptop, navigate to the Armrest Control Module settings, and change the EHR configuration to match the physical number of valves. Clear the code.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

    If the 6th lever is present and faulty, power down the tractor and remove the retaining screws for the armrest control panel (Integrated Control Panel/ICP) to access the EHR lever assemblies.

  3. Remove the Faulty Lever

    Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the bottom of EHR lever #6. Remove the mounting hardware securing the lever to the armrest bracket.

  4. Install the New Lever

    The potentiometer is integrated into the lever assembly (rocker switch/lever). Install the replacement EHR lever and reconnect the wiring harness.

  5. Reassemble and Calibrate

    Reinstall the armrest panel. Turn the key to the ON position and enter the EHR calibration mode (via the EST or the tractor's display panel). Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle the new lever through its maximum extend, maximum retract, and neutral positions.

  6. Clear Codes

    Turn the key off, wait 30 seconds, restart the tractor, and clear the fault codes. Test the remote valve for proper hydraulic flow.
