Case IH 18036 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Front hitch position height limit potentiometer - voltage too low

The signal voltage from the dial/potentiometer that sets the maximum lift height for the front 3-point hitch drops below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring, or an internal failure (dead spot or total failure) of the potentiometer itself.

   Disassemble the right-hand armrest console and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the front hitch potentiometers for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

   Disconnect the potentiometer, turn the key ON, and use a multimeter to verify that the Armrest Controller is supplying a 5V reference voltage and a solid ground.

   Check the signal wire between the potentiometer connector and the Armrest Control Module for continuity, ensuring it is not shorted to ground.

   Perform a potentiometer sweep test by measuring the resistance or voltage output while slowly turning the height limit dial. If voltage drops out, spikes, or stays near 0V, the potentiometer is internally faulty.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery isolator switch to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the screws securing the top cover/trim of the right-hand armrest console to expose the underside of the control panel.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Locate the front hitch height limit potentiometer. Pull the plastic knob off the top of the dial. Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the potentiometer, then remove the retaining nut or screws holding it to the console bracket.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the replacement potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and press the knob back onto the shaft. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassemble

   Carefully reinstall the armrest console cover, ensuring no wires are pinched in the process.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. You must perform the Armrest Controller Calibration via the tractor's standard instrumentation display (A-pillar or Pro 700/1200 monitor) so the controller can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage limits.
