Case IH 18037 – Armrest (ARM) Controller: Front hitch height limit enable switch error
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical fault, implausible signal, or physical sticking issue with the switch used to enable or set the height limit for the front hitch.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Magnum
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Check if the front hitch height limit enable switch is physically stuck or jammed with debris (the error is often self-correcting when the switch is released)
Verify if the hitch enable indicator light is lit when the error code is displayed; if not, the lamp or its supply circuit may be faulty
Cycle the hitch position lever to 'recapture' the hitch position (required if the rock shaft and position lever potentiometers are not within 4.2% or ± 0.077 volts of each other)
Inspect the wiring harness for rubbing under the cab or armrest, and check the switch connector for corrosion or loose pins
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the armrest console.
Access the Switch
Carefully remove the trim or paneling on the Armrest control console to access the underside of the front hitch switches.
Inspect and Clean
Inspect the front hitch height limit enable switch for physical damage, sticking, or dirt ingress. Clean the area with contact cleaner.
Test the Switch
Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper continuity when toggled. If the switch fails the continuity test or is physically broken, it must be replaced.
Check Harness Voltage
With the battery temporarily reconnected and the key ON, verify that the armrest controller is sending the correct reference voltage (typically 5V or 12V depending on the specific model year) to the switch connector.
Replace and Reassemble
Plug the new switch into the wiring harness, snap it into the armrest bezel, and reassemble the console.
Calibration/Reset
Start the tractor. Cycle the hitch position lever fully to recapture the hitch position and clear the active fault state.
