Case IH 18041 – Armrest Controller: EHR 1 lever position - voltage too high
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the #1 remote valve control lever's position sensor (potentiometer) that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to power, an open ground circuit in the wiring harness, or an internally failed potentiometer.

Check the cause
Check for Multiple Codes: Verify if there are other EHR-related error codes present. If multiple levers are throwing voltage too high codes simultaneously, the issue is likely a shared 5V reference short or a shared ground failure in the armrest harness rather than a single bad lever.
Clear and Retest: Make a note of the error code, clear it from the system, and test the remote valve for normal operation to see if the code returns.
Wiring & Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EHR 1 lever and the Armrest Controller. Look for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause an open ground or a short to a power source.
Potentiometer Sweep Test: Use a multimeter to monitor the voltage output of the EHR 1 lever potentiometer while moving it through its full range of motion. The voltage should scale smoothly without spiking out of range.
Repair steps
Attempt Calibration
Perform the EHR lever calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor. Sometimes, a loss of calibration parameters can cause the controller to read the lever's resting voltage as out of bounds.
Software Update
If the lever was recently calibrated or replaced, verify the controller has the correct software level. If necessary, download the correct software and repeat the calibration.
Harness Repair
If the multimeter test reveals a short to power or an open ground in the armrest wiring, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.
Replace the Lever/Potentiometer
If the wiring is intact but the potentiometer fails the sweep test (or physically binds/fails), remove the armrest console cover and replace the EHR 1 lever assembly or its dedicated potentiometer.
Recalibrate
After replacing any EHR lever or potentiometer, you must perform the EHR lever calibration procedure before the system will operate normally.
