Case IH 18050 – Armrest Controller Module (ACM): Joystick 1 X-axis position - voltage too high

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the X-axis potentiometer (sensor) on Joystick 1 that exceeds the normal upper operating limit. This condition is typically caused by a short to power in the sensor circuit, an open ground connection, or an internal failure of the joystick's potentiometer.

   Inspect the wiring harness between Joystick 1 and the Armrest Controller Module (ACM) for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper that could cause a short to a 12V or 5V power source.

   Verify that the sensor ground (return) circuit is intact, as an open ground will cause the sensor voltage to default to its highest state.

   Use a multimeter to test the X-axis potentiometer on Joystick 1, checking if the voltage sweeps smoothly when moved along the X-axis or if it is stuck at a high voltage.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to power or an open ground is found in the armrest wiring harness, repair the damaged wires or replace the affected harness section.

   Replace the Joystick

   If the wiring is intact, the internal X-axis potentiometer inside the joystick has failed. Because the internal components of the OEM electronic multifunction handle are often not serviced separately, the entire Multifunction Handle / Joystick assembly must be replaced.

   Calibrate the New Joystick

   After installing the new joystick into the armrest, you must perform a calibration procedure for the armrest controls and remote valves using the tractor's Pro 700 or Pro 1200 touchscreen display to ensure the ACM recognizes the new sensor's voltage sweep.
