Case IH 18051 – Armrest Controller: Joystick 1 Y-axis position - voltage too low
Issue description
The signal voltage coming from the Y-axis position sensor on Joystick 1 has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is usually caused by an open circuit, a short to ground in the sensor wiring, or an internal failure of the joystick's Y-axis sensor itself.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Use the Pro 700 / Pro 700 Plus display or Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor live voltage for the Joystick 1 Y-axis while moving it forward and backward.
Remove the armrest console cover and visually inspect the wiring harness for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected pins.
Check for a short to ground on the Y-axis signal wire.
Verify the joystick sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground connection from the Armrest Controller.
If wiring and reference voltage test good, isolate the joystick as the failed component.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes or accidental short circuits during repair.
Access the Armrest
Remove the retaining screws on the armrest control panel to lift the upper console housing.
Disconnect the Joystick
Unplug the main electrical connector linking the multi-function handle (Joystick 1) to the armrest wiring harness.
Remove the Joystick
Unbolt the joystick assembly from its mounting bracket on the armrest console.
Install the Replacement
Mount the new or remanufactured joystick assembly into the armrest and secure the bolts.
Reconnect and Reassemble
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reinstall the armrest control panel cover.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Use the Pro 700 display or EST to clear the inactive 18051 fault code. You must then navigate to the calibration menu to perform a joystick calibration, teaching the Armrest Controller the new minimum, maximum, and center voltage values for the X and Y axes.
