18055

Case IH 18055 – ACM (Armrest Control Module): Joystick 2 X-axis position - voltage too low (not applicable to CCM/APH _it may indicate incorrect configuration of the ACM)

Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the X-axis potentiometer/sensor of Joystick 2 that is below the acceptable minimum threshold (often indicating a short to ground, an open circuit, or a failed sensor). This error can also be triggered by an incorrect software configuration within the control module.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify ACM configuration using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or Pro 700 display to ensure it matches installed hardware

  2. Inspect wiring and connectors (H4 on armrest controller, H14 on EDC Panel, H13 on Control Lever 2) for pushed pins, corrosion, or moisture

  3. Test the X-axis signal circuit for a short to ground (0V) or an open circuit using a multimeter

  4. Verify the joystick is receiving the correct 5V or 8V reference voltage from the ACM

Repair steps

  1. Check ACM configuration

Connect the diagnostic service tool to the tractor and check the ACM configuration settings. If the configuration is incorrect (e.g., looking for a joystick that isn't installed or configured for the wrong axis type), reconfigure the ACM and clear the code.

  2. Access wiring

If the configuration is correct, power down the tractor and remove the armrest control panel covers to access the joystick and ACM wiring.

  3. Perform continuity test

Disconnect the harness at Joystick 2 and at the ACM. Perform a continuity test on the X-axis signal wire, the ground wire, and the reference voltage wire.

  4. Repair wiring

Repair any damaged wiring or replace the harness if a short to ground or open circuit is found.

  5. Replace joystick

If the wiring tests good and the reference voltage is present, the X-axis potentiometer inside the joystick has failed. Replace the Joystick 2 / Multi-Function Handle assembly.

  6. Calibrate joystick

Reassemble the armrest, power on the tractor, and perform any necessary joystick calibration procedures via the display monitor to ensure the new X-axis center and limits are learned.
