18057

Case IH 18057 – Armrest Control Module (ACM): Joystick 2 Y-axis position - voltage too low (not applicable to CCM/APH _it may indicate incorrect configuration of the ACM).

Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the Y-axis potentiometer (sensor) on Joystick 2 that has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold, typically indicating an open circuit, a short to ground, or a failed sensor. If the tractor is not physically equipped with this specific joystick setup, it indicates that the control module has been programmed with the wrong software configuration.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum Series: 235–340 (Series 4), 290
  • Case IH Steiger Series: 350–600
  • Case IH Puma Series: 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX
  • Case IH CVX Series: 120, 130, 140, 150, 170

Check the cause

  1. Verify ACM Configuration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to ensure the tractor is actually supposed to have Joystick 2 (incorrect software configuration cause).

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the joystick and the ACM for pinched wires, damaged connector pins, or a short to ground.

  3. Test the live voltage output of the Joystick 2 Y-axis using the EST or a multimeter to verify if the voltage genuinely drops below the minimum threshold during movement.

Repair steps

  1. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Navigate to the ACM configuration settings. If the configuration is incorrect for the tractor's build, update the ACM software configuration to remove the expectation of Joystick 2.

  3. If the configuration is correct and the hardware is faulty, power down the tractor and disconnect the battery.

  4. Remove the armrest console covers to access the internal joystick wiring.

  5. Disconnect the joystick harness and test the continuity of the wires to the ACM. Repair or replace the harness if a short or open circuit is found.

Disconnect the joystick harness and test the continuity of the wires to the ACM. Repair or replace the harness if a short or open circuit is found.

  6. If the harness is intact, the joystick's internal Y-axis potentiometer has failed. Remove the mounting screws securing Joystick 2 to the armrest and extract the faulty unit.

  7. Install the replacement joystick and reconnect the wiring harness.

  8. Reassemble the armrest console and reconnect the battery.

Reassemble the armrest console and reconnect the battery.

  9. Use the EST or the tractor's in-cab display to perform a joystick calibration procedure. This ensures the ACM correctly recognizes the new Y-axis sensor across its full range of motion.

  10. Clear the fault codes and test the joystick operation.
