18058

Case IH 18058 – Armrest Control Module (ACM): Joystick 2 Y-axis position - voltage too high

Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the Y-axis potentiometer (sensor) of Joystick 2 that is above the normal operating range. If the tractor is not actually equipped with a second joystick, this code is a ghost code caused by an incorrect software configuration telling the module to look for a sensor that isn't there.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Steiger
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • Optum

Check the cause

  1. Check ACM Configuration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if Joystick 2 is incorrectly enabled (ghost code cause).

  2. If Joystick 2 is present, inspect the wiring harness between the joystick and the armrest controller for a short to power or an open ground circuit.

  3. Test the 5V reference voltage and ground at the joystick connector to determine if the Y-axis potentiometer has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Software Correction

Connect the Case IH EST laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port. Navigate to the Armrest Control Module (ACM) configuration. If Joystick 2 is not physically installed, change the configuration to disable it. Save the configuration and cycle the key. The code should clear.

  2. Harness Repair

If the joystick is present but wiring is damaged, repair or replace the damaged sections of the armrest harness.

  3. Joystick Replacement

If the wiring is good and the configuration is correct, the joystick itself is faulty. Remove the armrest cover panels to access the joystick assembly mounting hardware. Disconnect the electrical harness from the bottom of the joystick. Unbolt and remove the faulty joystick. Install the new joystick and reconnect the harness.

  4. Calibration

After replacing the joystick or armrest controller, you must calibrate the new joystick and SCV (Selective Control Valve) controls using the EST or the tractor's Integrated Control Panel (ICP).
